Ram Prasad Bismil
- 11th June is the Birth Anniversary of Shaheed Ram Prasad Bismil, the freedom fighter who fought against British colonialism.
- Born on 11th June 1897 in Shahjahanpur, UP. He was associated with the Arya Samaj from an early age.
- He was home-schooled by his father and was later sent to a Maulvi to learn Urdu.
- Then, he moved into the anti-colonial struggle through his teacher Somdev.
- In 1916, after attending the Lucknow session of the Indian National Congress, Bismil came in touch with underground revolutionary organization Matravedi.
- He got fame as a prominent freedom fighter with his participation in the Mainpuri conspiracy of 1918.
- Bismil wrote patriotic poems in Urdu and Hindi under the pen names of ‘Bismil’, ‘Ram’, and ‘Agyat’.
- Books: America Ko Swadheenta Kaise Mili, pamphlet ‘Deshvasiyon Ke Naam Sandesh‘, Bolsheviko ki Karoot.
- He also translated the biography of the Russian Naraodnik leader Catherine Breshkovsky, “The Little Grandmother of Russian revolution”.
- After conflicting views and growing resentment with the Congress party, he formed the Hindustan Republic Association
- On August 9, 1925, Ram Prasad Bismil along with companions Ashfaqulla Khan and others executed the plan of looting the train at Kakori near Lucknow.
- After the trial in the so-called Kakori conspiracy, these four revolutionaries were hanged on 19th December 1927.
- Lucknow Central Jail, Bismil wrote his autobiography, considered as one of the finest works in Hindi literature.
