P L Haranadh takes over as Chairman of Paradip Port Trust

  • Shri P.L. Haranadh took over the post of Chairman of Paradip Port Trust (PPT) today.
  • An IRTS officer of 1994 batch, he has studied MSc & Ph.D. from Indian Agricultural Research Institute, Pusa, New Delhi.
  • In recognition of many meritorious works, he received National Award for outstanding management in 2002 and in 2005 from Ministry of Railways.

Paradip Port

  • It is a natural, deep-water port on the East coast of India in Jagatsinghpur district of Odisha.
  • It is situated at confluence of the Mahanadi river and the Bay of Bengal.
  • It is situated 210 nautical miles south of Kolkata and 260 nautical miles north of Visakhapatnam.
  • The port is administered by the Paradip Port Trust (PPT), an autonomous corporation wholly owned by the Government of India.
  • Late Biju Patnaik, the then Chief Minister of Odisha, is the founding father of Paradip Port.
  • It is the only Major Port in the State of Odisha situated 210 nautical miles south of Kolkata and 260 nautical miles north of Vishakapatnam on the east coast on the shore of Bay of Bengal.
  • Government of India declared Paradip Port as the Eighth Major Port of India on 18 April 1966 making it the FIRST MAJOR PORT in the East Coast commissioned after independence.
